From the Desk of Chairman, AEPSA Advisory Commitee

Dear AEPSA Members and Users,

The newly established Agricultural Extension Platform for South Asia (AEPSA) recognizes the diverse extension capacities and unique needs across the region. AEPSA aims to promote and share innovations and reforms in agricultural extension, fostering cross-learning through efficient knowledge sharing and dissemination processes.

I am pleased to inform you that AEPSA has made a promising start. A core team has been positioned, led by the Chief Coordinator and supported by a part-time Deputy Coordinator and a full-time Technical Associate.

welcome

Further, a good number of preparatory activities have been initiated making AEPSA operational in a short time. Broadly, these include :(i) initiated AEPSA as TAAS Program to begin with,(ii) Identified the Country Resource Persons representing professional platforms, as prime promoters in the respective country,(iii) Consituted AEPSA Advisory Committee of eminent experts, (iv) Developed AEPSA Brochure (including vision, mission, objectives, activities, organogram, etc. (v) Developed Draft Country Extension Profiles(C-AEPs) for the Phase-I Countries and (vi) Identified various categories of the members and fee structure for launching membership drive and mobilization of the funds.

ICT connects, internet platforms, and Social Media applications are crucial in the current dissemination strategies. Accordingly initiation of this AEPSA Website is an important steps. I am sure, it would facilitate information sharing on the progress and performance of AEPSA. Also, it would enable obtaining updates and productive inputs to make AEPSA visible regionally and globally.

Broadly the AEPSA Websites features on the menu bar are Home page, Who are we, Membership, Events, Publications, Media, Links & Contacts. There would be Static and Dynamic features and adequete scope for coverning extension innovations, success stories, extension events, regional and country specific dialogues and uploading relavent pictures and videoes making it attractive and intresting to the stakeholders.

I hope this website gets adequate visibility in the partner countries, in the South asia region and globally. It is expected that the stakeholders would benefit greatly enahancing the overall vision, mission, objectives, activities, growth sustainbility of the AEPSA. Finally, the stakeholders, members, users are requested to provide updates to make it relevant and much appreciated as we progress. I complement the team AEPSA for moving forward on use of this website.

The "National Dialogue on Innovations in Agricultural Extension: A way Forward" organised by Trust for Advancement of Agricultural Sciences (TAAS) in collaboration with Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE) and Michigan State University (MSU), USA, during 8-9 April 2022 which was attended by senior representatives from Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. This was followed by an international conference on "Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agricultural Extension Strategies" organized at Dhaka during 2-4 February 2023, attended by senior extension representatives from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and representatives of other international stakeholders. The conference strongly impressed upon the need for cross-learning and experience sharing on extension innovations and reforms between the South Asian Countries. It proposed the establishment of a "Network of Agricultural Extension Professionals".

Driven by the above deliberations and with a view to operationalize the recommendations thereon, a Consultative Meeting was held on 8 March 2024 at Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, India wherein the parities resolved to establish an "Agricultural Extension Platform for South Asia (AEPSA)".
